Ontology-based query expansion in the biomedicine domain
نویسنده
چکیده
Ontologies conceptualize knowledge with concepts and the relevant relations among them. Domain-independent ontology represents common knowledge of natural language. Domain-specific ontology represents professional knowledge in a specific domain. Information retrieval system purposes to find the useful documents wanted by users. The major problem of information retrieval is ambiguity of language. There are several methods can be used to decrease the negative effect of ambiguity, including query expansion which add new terms into the original query terms. This project applies synonym and hyponym relations from domain-independent (WordNet) and domain-specific (UMLS) ontologies to expand the queries in biomedicine domain, and then evaluate their performance. In the result, WordNet doesn’t give obvious improvement on the retrieval performance, UMLS slightly improves the result on precision.

Query Architecture Expansion in Web Using Fuzzy Multi Domain Ontology
Due to the increasing web, there are many challenges to establish a general framework for data mining and retrieving structured data from the Web. Creating an ontology is a step towards solving this problem. The ontology raises the main entity and the concept of any data in data mining. In this paper, we tried to propose a method for applying the "meaning" of the search system, But the problem ...

In this paper we describe Tagged Information Management System (TIMS), an integrated knowledge management system for the domain of molecular biology and biomedicine, in which terminology-driven literature mining, knowledge acquisition (KA), knowledge integration (KI), and XML-based knowledge retrieval are combined using tag information management and ontology inference. The system integrates au...
متن کاملApplying Clinical Ontology for Biomedical Information Retrieval
Information retrieval (IR) is a technology to help people find information, however it is hard to formulate users’ information need into just a few words. In the biomedical area, if people are not familiar with specific domain knowledge, they may use inappropriate query keywords and then get non-relevant query results. To solve this problem we adopted knowledge ontology in the IR process. In th...
متن کاملA review of ontology based query expansion
This paper examines the meaning of context in relation to ontology based query expansion and contains a review of query expansion approaches. The various query expansion approaches include relevance feedback, corpus dependent knowledge models and corpus independent knowledge models. Case studies detailing query expansion using domain-specific and domain-independent ontologies are also included....
متن کاملQuery expansion based on relevance feedback and latent semantic analysis
Web search engines are one of the most popular tools on the Internet which are widely-used by expert and novice users. Constructing an adequate query which represents the best specification of users’ information need to the search engine is an important concern of web users. Query expansion is a way to reduce this concern and increase user satisfaction. In this paper, a new method of query expa...
